When we were young, we wanted to become a pilot, astronaut or a fire engine driver.
–Our mothers would laugh at us.

When we were in our pre-teens, we wanted to become programmers.
–Our fathers would laugh at us.

When we became programmers, we wanted to become network administrators.
–The world (our girlfriends included) would laugh at us.

It’s them awry Oceanologists

A busy blogging night, this is. As part of the NewScientists 50th anniversary celebrations they asked over 70 of the world’s most brilliant scientists for their ideas what scientific development of the next 50 years will have the biggest impact on our world.

Oceanologist Daniel Pauly:

In light of the time span considered here, I think the most important development for the oceans would be a device that could detect, amplify and transmit to us the emotions and fleeting, inarticulate „thoughts“ of animals in such a form as to evoke analogous emotions and thoughts in human brains. This would first work with primates, then mammals in general, then the other vertebrates including fish. This would cause, obviously, a global revulsion at eating flesh of all kinds, and we would all become vegetarians.

I read it at german newsmag Tagesschau.de today, while it was on The Register years ago, a Jedi Academy opened in Romania. Hmm, makes me think.. it does
